Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a skilled and compassionate Outreach Caseworker to join our team. As a key member of our social services team, you will provide critical support and supervision to clients, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and secure environment for clients, conducting regular status checks and room searches as required.
  • Develop and implement effective case management plans, assisting clients in setting and achieving goals, and preparing discharge plans.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including incident logs and reports, and ensure compliance with funding contract policies and procedures.
  • Provide backup support to front-line staff and participate in case conferences with the case management team.
  • Respond to urgent client needs, attend appointments, and facilitate resident programming as required.
  • Collect and record case management statistics, prepare reports, and review weekly update reports for the Region of Halton.
  • Conduct intake and discharge procedures, monitor behavior, and provide emotional support and advocacy as needed.
  • Distribute funds to residents in accordance with established guidelines and engage in inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Perform scheduled check-ins, escort residents, and monitor behavior in the community.
  • Liaise with police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members.
  • Provide orientation to new staff, volunteers, and students, and conduct tours of the building as requested.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of The Salvation Army's mission and its implications for position responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality as required and participate in regular supervision and performance review processes.
  • Attend seminars and training sessions as requested by management and represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training, and adhere to standards consistent with The Salvation Army's values and philosophy.
Working Conditions

This is a permanent full-time position with 40 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the work schedule may vary according to responsibility. Applicable shifts include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break.

May work with potentially aggressive clients.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of more than two years of community college.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent with a background in social work, i.e., social services or human services diploma preferred.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license, personal vehicle required, and insurance, current copy of driver's abstract satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
Experience and Knowledge
  • A minimum of one year of prior related experience, including front-line casework experience in a social services environment.
  • Knowledge of issues facing persons experiencing housing crisis.
  • Knowledge and sound understanding of the Mental Health and Addictions support systems available to individuals in the region of Halton.
  • Knowledge of various social issues pertaining to homelessness and its impact on the families served.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Solid background in working with people from diverse backgrounds and assisting others to solve problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong networking ability to develop healthy partnerships with new and existing groups and organizations within the region of Halton.
