Lead Project Manager for Marine Construction

Position Overview
Ontario Shipyards stands as a premier entity in the ship repair and construction sector within Canada. With a significant expansion phase on the horizon, fueled by the initiatives of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, we are seeking a qualified individual to oversee substantial government projects, including Vessel Life Extensions and new construction endeavors. The role also encompasses the management of key aspects of the shipyard modernization initiative, particularly the integration of advanced robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs and mentors the project team
- Facilitates project communications, both internally and externally
- Maintains client relationships
- Establishes project scope in collaboration with the Tendering Department
- Creates project timelines and resource allocation documents for each assigned project
- Delegates, prioritizes, and oversees project activities, including setting milestones and deadlines
- Manages project resources and associated costs
- Monitors project performance through relevant KPIs, reporting weekly to the Director of Project Management & Engineering
- Implements and oversees changes, ensuring communication of modifications to clients
- Identifies, mitigates, and manages project risks
- Submits project deliverables, ensuring compliance with quality and industry standards
- Undertakes additional project-related tasks as necessary
- Participates in client meetings and ensures satisfaction through effective feedback management
- Coordinates with Production Managers/Supervisors to guarantee they have the necessary information and resources
- Promotes continuous improvement methodologies
- Acts as a technical advisor for the Project Management Department
- Supports the Purchasing Department in material procurement
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field
- Over 10 years of experience in construction management
- More than 10 years of experience in marine repair, maintenance, or construction
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple large-scale projects with complex scopes and diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of fostering change and gaining support for innovative concepts
- Proficient in interpreting engineered design drawings
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), CAD, etc.
