Lead Project Manager for Marine Construction

Position Overview:
Heddle Shipyards stands as the premier ship repair and construction enterprise within the Great Lakes region of Canada. As the company enters a significant growth phase fueled by the initiatives outlined in Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, we seek a qualified individual to oversee substantial government projects, including Vessel Life Extensions and new construction endeavors. This role also encompasses the management of critical elements of the shipyard modernization initiative, particularly in the procurement and implementation of advanced robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs and mentors the project team
- Facilitates project communications with stakeholders
- Cultivates and maintains client relationships
- Collaborates with the Tendering Department to define project scope
- Creates detailed project schedules and resource allocation documents
- Prioritizes and oversees project tasks, establishing milestones and deadlines
- Manages project resources and associated costs
- Monitors project performance using relevant KPIs, reporting findings to the Director of Project Management & Engineering weekly
- Implements change management processes, effectively communicating modifications to clients
- Identifies and mitigates project risks
- Ensures deliverables meet quality and industry standards
- Undertakes additional project-related tasks as necessary
- Participates in client meetings to ensure alignment and satisfaction
- Gathers and addresses client feedback through appropriate channels
- Coordinates with Production Managers/Supervisors to ensure they have the necessary information and resources
- Promotes continuous improvement initiatives
- Acts as a technical advisor within the Project Management Department
- Assists the Purchasing Department in sourcing materials
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field
- Over 10 years of experience in construction project management
- More than 10 years of experience in marine repair, maintenance, or construction
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple large-scale projects with complex scopes and diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of driving change and securing buy-in for innovative concepts
- Proficient in interpreting engineered design drawings
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, and Project), CAD, etc.
