About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Web Developer to join our dynamic Web Initiatives Team at the Bank of Canada. As a member of our team, you will play a key role in enhancing the usability of our web applications and websites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our team to develop web-based products that meet the needs of our users.
  • Write clean and efficient code in PHP and JavaScript to support both back-end and front-end development efforts.
  • Contribute to team meetings and share ideas to improve web development processes and user experiences.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with PHP, particularly in developing and maintaining WordPress sites, themes, and plugins.
  • Proficiency in CSS and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with various web frameworks and libraries, such as Laravel.
  • Solid understanding and experience with relational databases, particularly MySQL.
  • Experience with iterative web development and test-driven development.
  • Automated testing using PHPUnit, Behat, and Selenium.
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as SVN and Git.

Education and Experience

You must be currently enrolled in a co-op program at a college or university (undergraduate level) on a full or part-time basis, pursuing a degree in computer studies, engineering, web development, or a related field. Additionally, you must be returning to school in the next academic term.

Language and Security Requirements

  • Language requirement: English or French essential.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Reliability.

Work Arrangements

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank's hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues.
