About the Role

The Bank of Canada is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Web Developer to join our dynamic Web Initiatives Team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the usability of our web applications and websites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our team to develop web-based products that meet the needs of our users.
  • Write clean and efficient code in PHP and JavaScript to ensure seamless user experiences.
  • Support both back-end and front-end development efforts to ensure the stability and security of our web applications.
  • Contribute to team meetings and share ideas to improve web development processes and user experiences.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with PHP, particularly in developing and maintaining WordPress sites, themes, and plugins.
  • Proficiency in CSS and JavaScript to ensure visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Familiarity with various web frameworks and libraries, such as Laravel, to ensure scalability and maintainability.
  • Solid understanding and experience with relational databases, particularly MySQL, to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Experience with iterative web development and test-driven development to ensure high-quality code.
  • Automated testing using PHPUnit, Behat, and Selenium to ensure thorough testing and validation.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, such as SVN and Git, to ensure collaboration and code management.

Assets

  • An online portfolio or Git repository showcasing your previous projects and code examples.

Education and Experience

You must be currently enrolled in a co-op program at a college or university (undergraduate level) on a full or part-time basis, pursuing a degree in computer studies, engineering, web development, or a related field. Additionally, you must be returning to school in the next academic term.

Language and Security Requirements

  • Language requirement: English or French essential.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Reliability clearance.

Work Arrangements

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank's hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues.
