About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a School and Student Support Worker. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students and contribute to the success of our school district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with diverse needs, including those with intellectual, behavioral, and physical challenges.
  • Assist educators in behavior management, individual skill development, and the integration process.
  • Support students in community-based programming, such as work experience, travel training, and relevant community outings.
  • Supervise students, as required, and deal with disciplinary problems as they occur.
  • Prepare instructional aid materials and set up and operate instructional aid equipment.
Requirements
  • Completion of a recognized Special Education Assistant program or related field and over two (2) months of experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the issues and needs in educating students with intellectual, behavioral, and/or physical challenges and educational/developmental psychology and behavior management.
  • Ability to effectively assist educators in behavior management, individual skill development, and the integration process.
  • Required to provide personal assistance to meet students' needs and able to lift and position students of varying weights.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain an Occupational First Aid Certificate and will be required to perform Occupational First Aid duties if assigned by the Principal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An excellent practicum or work evaluation.
  • Experience using techniques of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
  • Completion of POPARD coursework.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
