Job Summary:

Shawenim Abinoojii Inc is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shkabeh Program Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our transitional housing program, you will provide essential support to Indigenous youth in and from Child and Family Services care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site support to enhance and pursue mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness of youth tenants.
  • Offer emotional support through conversation, referrals, and other means.
  • Plan and lead on-site programming and recreational activities for youth, such as movie nights, cooking, sewing, and beading.
  • Assist with house duties, meal planning, and light housekeeping as needed.
  • Conduct building walk-throughs and periodic check-ins with youth to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Intervene in situations of concern, such as noise complaints or unauthorized guests.
  • Support youth in accessing community crisis response resources and attend emergency resources as required.
  • Monitor cameras and report suspicious activity to the security team.
  • Collaborate with other support workers to ensure team safety and maintain accurate shift logs.
  • Attend training sessions and participate in team meetings as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Training in the social services field is an asset, but not required. A combination of previous work experience, lived experience, and training will be considered.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check, child and adult abuse registry checks, and prior contact check required.
  • Valid MB class 5 Driver's license with access to a vehicle is preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR, ASIST, and/or Naloxone training required; additional training, including trauma and crisis training, is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture, and traditional philosophies.
  • Ability to walk multiple flights of stairs required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective working relationships.
  • Experience with child welfare and/or youth aging out of care, transitional housing, is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is an asset.
