Mines and Minerals Specialist Opportunity

The MMF Métis Youth is seeking a highly skilled Mines and Minerals Specialist to join our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department in Winnipeg, MB.

The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and reporting on mineral exploration, mine development, and reclamation related matters across the Red River Métis Homeland. This includes developing policy options and recommendations based on research and analysis, assisting in negotiations for services and contracts, and attending community workshops and meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and analysis on the impacts of mining-related activities on Red River Métis section 35 rights, claims, and interests;
  • Develop policy options and recommendations for the MMF Métis Youth;
  • Assist in negotiations with federal and provincial departments;
  • Attend community workshops and meetings to coordinate the facilitation of meetings;
  • Collaborate with the MMF Métis Youth team to develop and implement policies and programs related to mining and resource management.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Resource Management, or equivalent education;
  • Experience negotiating with federal and provincial departments;
  • Experience in policy and program development;
  • Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is an asset;
  • Experience or training in quantitative data analysis;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF Métis Youth programs and services is a definite asset;
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
