Overview

The Automotive Service Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance and safety of customer vehicles. The Technician possesses outstanding communication abilities, allowing them to effectively listen, understand, and execute all necessary tasks within the service process. A Technician upholds the standards and values of the dealership, ensuring customer satisfaction in every interaction with the service team. As a collaborative team member, the Technician builds positive relationships with colleagues across all dealership departments.

Key Responsibilities

Detail-Oriented Tasks

  • Conduct vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and implement repairs.
  • Inspect vehicles to identify any additional safety or service needs.
  • Provide written, prioritized estimates for necessary additional services.
  • Communicate procedures and repairs clearly to the Service Advisor.
  • Perform road tests to ensure vehicle functionality.
  • Conduct safety inspections.
  • Regularly review and assess actions to enhance time management and planning.
  • Encourage adherence to relevant laws and regulations.

Effective Communication

  • Welcome all customers with warmth and professionalism.
  • Keep the Service Consultant informed throughout the service process (e.g., regarding issues, detailing, and completion).
  • Utilize strong written communication skills to document findings clearly and concisely during the service process.

Commitment to the Dealership Brand

  • Complete all training provided by the dealership.
  • Stay informed about ongoing training programs.
  • Demonstrate strong product knowledge.
  • Exhibit a solid understanding of technical and mechanical repairs.
  • Stay updated on new features and advancements.
  • Champion the delivery of excellent service consistently.
  • Maintain cleanliness in personal and team workspaces.
  • Present a high level of professional appearance.

Industry Knowledge

  • Stay current with products, accessories, pricing, and key features of major competitors.

Qualifications

  • College Diploma or Trade School Certificate in Automotive Studies, or equivalent.
  • Strong product knowledge.
  • Proven aptitude for technical and mechanical repairs.
  • Valid Automotive Service Technician (AST) Certification of Qualification, Class A.
  • Ozone depletion certificate.
  • Valid Driver's License for the province of employment.
  • Ideally, a minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Automotive Service Technician.
  • One (1) year of brand product experience.
  • Dealership experience is preferred.
