Recreation Assistant Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Assistant to join our team at The Wexford, a retirement living residence in Tsawwassen. As a Recreation Assistant, you will play a vital role in implementing activity programs that meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs and interests of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize and direct daily activity programs, including exercise classes, entertainment, crafts, and related activities that encourage resident involvement and independence.
  • Assist in setting objectives and standards for program success and ensure required standards are met.
  • Develop and produce monthly calendars and informational materials for residents.
  • Adhere to management policies and procedures for purchasing, ordering, stock, and inventory control.
  • Promote resident participation in social, spiritual, and recreational activities, encouraging family and community involvement.
  • Direct and supervise volunteers as required.
  • Drive the bus for community outings, ensuring pre- and post-inspections are made prior to use.
  • Observe and report changes in residents' functional and cognitive behavior to the Recreation Manager.
  • Maintain residents' rights of privacy and confidentiality, except in the proper operation of the business.
  • Ensure proper security procedures are followed in handling and storing confidential material.
  • Attend approved work-related conferences and seminars to promote professional development.
  • Ensure departmental operations comply with all Health and Safety Standards and Regulations.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in a recreation program or equivalent qualifications in the Continuing Care field.
  • Current basic First Aid Certificate.
  • Computer skills with Google Docs and Google Sheets.
  • Class 4 Driver's License, or willingness to obtain it (Company Paid).
  • Minimum one year in a recreational setting.
  • Minimum one year experience driving a bus is an asset.
