Nursing Graduate Employment Initiative

We are excited to announce opportunities for new Registered Nurses through our Nursing Graduate Employment Initiative. Our healthcare facilities are committed participants in this program, designed to support the transition of newly graduated nurses into the workforce.

Currently, we have openings for the Nursing Graduate Employment Initiative (RN) at our facility:

  • Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Fergus (Emergency Department)

The Nursing Graduate Employment Initiative is a government-funded program aimed at assisting newly registered nurses and registered practical nurses who are nearing registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). This initiative provides a temporary full-time employment opportunity to enhance their transition into professional practice and secure full-time employment.

The objectives of the Nursing Graduate Employment Initiative include:

  • Supporting new nurses in Ontario as they adapt to their roles;
  • Facilitating the integration of new nurses into the healthcare workforce;
  • Encouraging the availability of full-time employment or equivalent hours for new nurses;
  • Enhancing health workforce planning at the organizational level.

Our program offers:

  • Comprehensive nursing and interprofessional orientation modules to ensure a solid understanding of standards and policies;
  • A tailored competency-based learning pathway and plan to address individual learning needs;
  • Weeks of guided shifts in specific units to support the transition of new graduates into practice;
  • Regular mentorship and check-ins with a Nurse Educator.

Eligibility for participation in the Nursing Graduate Employment Initiative is open to nurses who are within months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), including:

Canadian-educated nurses:

  • Graduates of a baccalaureate nursing program or a practical nursing diploma from Canada;
  • Those who match with an employer on the NGG online portal within months of CNO registration;
  • Individuals who commit to full-time employment or equivalent hours with their NGG employer after completing the transition period.

Internationally educated nurses (IENs):

  • Nurses who completed their education outside of Canada;
  • Those who match with an employer on the NGG online portal within months of CNO registration;
  • Individuals who commit to full-time employment or equivalent hours with their NGG employer after completing the transition period.

To begin the process, eligible nurses must first register as a Nursing User on the designated portal. Once registered, applicants can apply for available positions.
