Position Overview:

The Weir Group is seeking a Marine Communications Consultant to facilitate the planning, evaluation, and testing of communication systems for naval projects.

This role is integral to the support of the Royal Canadian Navy's future initiatives, particularly the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) program.

The consultant will work within a dedicated team at the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE) to ensure that communication systems align with the Navy's operational requirements.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and assist in technical investigations and studies focused on advanced naval communication technologies.
  • Engage with various communication systems, including those that support national and allied communications across multiple frequency bands.

Technical Proficiency:

Provide expert technical guidance and assess contractor materials related to:

  • Internal communication systems
  • Cryptographic systems
  • Integrated communication suites
  • Message handling systems
  • External communication transmitter and receiver systems

Design and Architecture:

Develop comprehensive logical and physical architecture views for communication systems, adhering to Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Architecture Framework (DNDAF) standards.


Planning and Testing:

Conduct integration planning for communication systems, produce design documentation, and formulate test and trial documentation.


Qualifications:

A minimum of ten years of relevant experience is required, alongside a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.


Essential Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with integrated communication systems and implementation standards.
  • Understanding of electrical schematic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and system block diagrams.
  • Previous experience supporting naval communications engineering is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional English writing skills with a proven track record in preparing technical documentation, reports, presentations, and correspondence.
