Technical Manager (East Coast) Opportunity

McKeil Marine, a leading marine service provider in Canada, is seeking a skilled Technical Manager to oversee the day-to-day technical operations of our tug and barge fleet on the East Coast. As a key member of our team, you will ensure the vessels are maintained, operated efficiently, and comply with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, coordinate repairs and inspections, and optimize vessel performance.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, facilitate procurement of technical products and machinery, and contribute to capital project budget development.
  • Deliver weekly maintenance updates, prepare 3-month forecasts, and design Scheduled Down Time (SDT) plans for vessels.
  • Monitor machinery and equipment performance, provide necessary reporting, and offer continuous feedback for engineering crew performance.
  • Support the development and supervision of vessel dry-docking and major machinery works, and maintain close communication with Operations Managers and Operational Risk Management (ORM) teams.
Requirements:
  • Second Class Marine Engineer (Motor) with a minimum of five years' experience in a shipboard position as a senior Engineering Officer or equivalent demonstrated previous tug/ship management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with vessel machineries and equipment, including main engine, aux. engines, generators, thrusters, boilers, pumps, and electrical systems.
  • Sound knowledge of budget preparation, cost control, and scheduling, as well as computer literacy in Microsoft Office and task-related software.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with International Safety Management (ISM) Code, and excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
