Job Description

Job Summary:

The Senior Tax Professional will be a key member of Telesat's tax team, responsible for assisting with various aspects of domestic and international tax compliance, quarterly tax provision preparation, and tax planning and audit activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of corporate tax filings in Canada, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Preparation of required supporting documentation for the Company's tax filing positions, including financial statements and tax returns.
  • Preparation of the quarterly tax provision and related note disclosure on a consolidated basis, and answering questions from external financial statement auditors as required.
  • Preparation of regular indirect tax filings, including sales tax and value-added tax returns.
  • Assistance with foreign tax compliance and related projects, including transfer pricing and withholding tax.
  • Assistance with the tax aspects of business system implementations, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Support for tax audit defense activities, including direct and indirect tax, federal, provincial, and international.
  • Investigation and interpretation of new accounting transactions to determine Canadian income tax implications.
  • Review, interpretation, and modeling of new tax legislation globally, and assessing its impact on Telesat.
  • Assistance with the preparation of contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Assistance with developing internal control processes within the tax function, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Acting as a resource to internal departments to answer tax-related questions, providing guidance and support.
  • Performing other duties as required, in support of Telesat's tax function.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Canadian tax, with a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations.
  • University degree in Finance, Economics, or Business, with an Accounting designation.
  • Completed or enrolled in the CPA In-depth Tax Course, demonstrating a high level of tax knowledge and expertise.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • The incumbent is required to plan, coordinate, and set priorities to ensure timely completion of all assigned tasks.
