As a Taxation Specialist, you play a crucial role in the success of the Scotiatrust Taxation Services unit in Canada. Your contributions will ensure that specific individual objectives, plans, and initiatives are executed in alignment with the team's business strategies and goals. You will also ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:
  1. Promoting a customer-centric culture to enhance client relationships and leverage broader banking relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  2. Engaging proactively with clients and partners to deliver comprehensive personal, estate, and trust tax preparation services to an assigned client group while adhering to regulatory deadlines, defined policies, service level agreements, and audit standards.
  3. Offering tax solutions and strategies by identifying tax issues that may impact clients and ensuring that clients and partners are informed as necessary.
  4. Serving as the primary contact for all clients, partners, and potential business opportunities.
  5. Overseeing, reviewing, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all tax returns prepared by Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff to mitigate risk.
  6. Providing ongoing guidance, motivation, and technical coaching to Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff.
  7. Delivering constructive performance feedback to Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff.
  8. Executing key tax preparation tasks by handling the most complex tax returns.
  9. Understanding how the Bank's risk appetite and culture should be integrated into daily activities and decision-making.
  10. Pursuing effective and efficient operations within your respective areas while ensuring adherence to and effectiveness of daily business controls to meet obligations related to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk.
  11. Fostering a high-performance environment and contributing to an inclusive workplace.
Do you possess the skills and qualifications that will enable you to excel in this role? – We would be delighted to collaborate with you if you have:
  1. Bi-lingual proficiency in English and French, particularly for candidates from specific regions.
  2. Prior experience in a tax unit servicing individuals, trusts, and corporations.
  3. A post-secondary degree or diploma.
  4. Progress towards an accounting designation.
  5. Completion of STEP or CSI Taxation Courses and a commitment to staying updated on legislative changes, especially those affecting individuals, estates, trusts, corporations, and registered charities.
  6. Strong computer skills, particularly in tax preparation software and MS Office, SalesForce, and the Broadridge Trust System.
