Position Overview:
The Community Housing Support Specialist plays a vital role in our Community Homes for Opportunity Program. We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to assisting those recovering from mental health challenges. If you are a collaborative and innovative professional eager to support individuals in achieving independence and securing housing, this position may be an excellent fit for you.
Key Responsibilities:
The Community Housing Support Specialist will work within residential settings, providing tailored support and wellness planning to clients. The primary focus is to:
- Assist clients in maintaining their housing
- Facilitate community engagement and integration
- Provide budgeting and financial management support
- Help clients access resources and services to enhance their independence and recovery
In this role, you will collaborate with clients to identify their strengths and needs, develop long-term goals, and create actionable steps through wellness plans. You will also engage in advocacy initiatives to improve access to resources and services.
Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in health or social services
- Current Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
- Experience in a community-based organization working with adults facing serious mental health issues
- Familiarity with congregate living environments or supportive housing
- Knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act and related legislation
- Ability to apply recovery-oriented principles in client interactions
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to the community is an asset
- A valid Canadian Full G driver's license and appropriate insurance
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)
Working Conditions:
This role involves a mix of office work, community engagement, and travel to meet clients. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating closely with housing administrators and home operators.
