SENIOR POLICY CONSULTANT

Job Overview:

The Senior Policy Consultant will provide high-level strategic guidance to the management team and represent the organization in various initiatives and projects. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of divisional programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute comprehensive plans and propose policies tailored to specific program needs.
  • Oversee assigned projects, promoting teamwork, effective communication, and maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
  • Review and coordinate reports for management, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
  • Stay informed about corporate initiatives and advise management on alignment opportunities.
  • Conduct thorough research in relevant areas, considering developments in the field and applicable legislation.
  • Manage project budgets to ensure expenditures remain within approved limits.
  • Assist management in addressing ongoing and emerging challenges to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive briefings to management on critical matters.
  • Offer strategic policy advice and operational support on complex issues to senior leadership.
  • Develop policy alternatives and ensure compliance with corporate standards.
  • Lead projects related to divisional strategies and apply effective project management methodologies.
  • Chair the communication committee to develop and maintain a cohesive social media strategy.
  • Prepare communications and responses for management regarding various topics.
  • Manage significant multi-stakeholder projects related to childcare services in accordance with provincial guidelines.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with senior management, project managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison with political representatives and respond to inquiries.
  • Prepare reports and attend meetings to monitor directives impacting divisional services.
  • Serve as the primary contact for management on divisional matters.
  • Represent the division on corporate teams for various initiatives as assigned.
  • Resolve policy and administrative issues by collaborating with senior staff.
  • Identify and respond to emerging issues and opportunities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current corporate and divisional initiatives.
  • Represent the division in corporate campaigns.

Qualifications:

1. A degree in Public Policy, Administration, or a related field, combined with significant experience in the public sector or a large non-profit organization.

2. Extensive experience in strategic policy and planning, preferably in a governmental context, with strong analytical skills to identify challenges and propose effective solutions.

3. Proven ability to prepare complex reports and briefings for senior management to support decision-making.

4. Experience collaborating with community service agencies, politicians, and stakeholders, demonstrating political awareness and relationship-building skills.

5. Proficiency in MS Office applications and familiarity with data analysis software.

6. Understanding of governance structures, legislative frameworks, and intergovernmental relationships.

7. Strong mediation and negotiation skills to facilitate consensus on competing priorities.

8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a solid understanding of social media.

9. Knowledge of legislation governing childcare and community service delivery.

10. Awareness of current trends and issues in children's services to provide informed advice to management.
