Position Overview: Social Worker/Counsellor - Patient and Family Support in Cancer Care

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Counsellor offers essential psychosocial assistance to individuals diagnosed with cancer and their families. This role involves collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure comprehensive support tailored to the unique needs of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments and provide counselling to patients and their families, addressing emotional and practical challenges related to their diagnosis.
  • Facilitate group programs designed to support patients and families, ensuring a responsive approach to complex issues.
  • Collaborate with various healthcare professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing to holistic patient care.
  • Engage with community organizations to identify patient needs and facilitate appropriate referrals for additional services.
  • Participate in the development and execution of educational initiatives within the healthcare center and community outreach programs.
  • Contribute to the quality improvement efforts of the department through active involvement in planning processes.
  • Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to students and volunteers as needed.
  • Engage in research initiatives as directed, promoting evidence-based practices.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant social sciences field, such as Social Work or Counselling Psychology, from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in an interdisciplinary environment, including work with individuals, couples, families, and groups in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Crisis Counselling.
  • Eligibility for registration with a recognized professional regulatory body.
