Job Title: Social Worker/Counsellor - Patient and Family Counselling Cancer Care

BC Cancer is seeking a skilled Social Worker/Counsellor to join our team in Abbotsford, BC. As a key member of our Patient and Family Counselling team, you will provide psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families, working closely with our interdisciplinary cancer care team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Screen, assess, and counsel patients and families regarding emotional and practical needs associated with their diagnosis, helping with complex problems and facilitating group programs to meet patient and family needs.
  • Provide consultation to other disciplines and work as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with community agencies to identify patient needs and make referrals or develop alternative strategies for patient support, education, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in planning and development of educational activities, including in-service programs and clinical network meetings, and provide clinical guidance to students and volunteers as required.
  • Participate in and promote research projects as directed, contributing to the advancement of cancer care and patient outcomes.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a social sciences discipline relevant to the job from a recognized program, such as Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or Clinical Psychology.
  • Minimum of two years of recent experience working in an interdisciplinary setting, with experience in individuals, couples, families, and group work, program and community development, adjustment and grief counselling in a healthcare or oncology setting.
  • As per our Standards of Practice, demonstrated aptitude and experience in brief evidence-based therapy models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systems Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Crisis Counselling, Group Therapy, and Resource Counselling.
  • Eligible for registration with a designated professional regulatory body.
