Job Description

The Association of Canadian Archivists is seeking a highly skilled Archival Collections Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in supporting the management of our archival collections and ensuring their long-term preservation and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies for the management and preservation of archival collections, including the development of policies and procedures for collection acquisition, appraisal, and disposal.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the effective management of digital assets, including the development and implementation of digital preservation strategies and the creation of metadata for digital collections.
  • Provide information services to researchers and the public, including conducting reference interviews, developing search strategies, and recommending appropriate materials and formats.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and procedures for archival collections management, including the creation of finding aids and other descriptive tools.
  • Stay up-to-date with current trends and best practices in archival collections management and digital preservation, and apply this knowledge to improve our collections management processes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Archival Studies or a related field, with a focus on archival collections management and digital preservation.
  • Knowledge of current archival principles, systems, and practices, including the Canadian Rules for Archival Description (RAD) and other relevant standards.
  • Experience with archival management and digital preservation software, including AtoM and Archivematica.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, researchers, and the public.
