We are seeking a highly skilled Cultural Heritage Specialist to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our Environmental business line, you will be responsible for conducting research and preparing cultural heritage reports, field visits, and coordination with our planning team on large-scale cultural heritage initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Research and Report Writing: Prepare cultural heritage reports, including Cultural Heritage Reports, Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Assessments, and Strategic Conservation Plans, in accordance with relevant provincial, municipal, and federal policies and regulations.
- Field Reviews and Data Collection: Conduct field reviews to identify known and potential built heritage resources and cultural heritage landscapes, and collect data through archival research, historical map reviews, and desktop data collection.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with our planning team to coordinate large-scale cultural heritage initiatives and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Travel and Fieldwork: Travel to project sites and conduct fieldwork, including hotel stays, as required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Heritage Planning, Architectural History, Cultural Heritage Studies, Canadian History, Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 1-3+ years of experience in Cultural Heritage or Archaeology in a consulting context.
- Legislation and Regulations: Working knowledge and experience with relevant municipal, provincial, and federal legislation, including the Ontario Heritage Act, Planning Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), and Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, and ability to obtain Provincial and Federal Security Clearance.
