Role Overview

As an Occupational Therapist at Bethany, you will encounter both personal and professional challenges that are immensely rewarding. Your role will involve providing thorough assessments and interventions tailored to our residents' needs, promoting independence through adaptive equipment, and developing occupational therapy programs aimed at enhancing physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional, and social functions. Collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team is essential, and you will also provide guidance and oversight to Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments related to daily living activities in accordance with Bethany Care policies.
  • Assist residents in identifying their goals and preferences, delivering interventions that enhance their quality of life.
  • Coordinate with families and community resources to achieve therapeutic objectives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in healthcare records, including resident-centered care plans.
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of resident care and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Provide orientation and supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants to ensure service delivery meets expected outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or an equivalent recognized by the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
  • Experience in geriatric care is preferred.
  • Familiarity with dementia care is advantageous.
  • Active registration with ACOT is mandatory.
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) is preferred.
  • Membership in the Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists (SAOT) is beneficial.
  • Able to thrive in a demanding physical and mental environment.
  • Proficient in English, with strong observational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of performing lifting and transferring tasks for residents.
  • Preferred status as an Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) authorizer - wheelchair level A.
