About the Role

Ombudsman Ontario is seeking a skilled and compassionate Victim Support Specialist to join our team. As a Victim Support Specialist, you will provide critical support and services to victims of crime and marginalized/vulnerable clients, ensuring their unique needs are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Information and Support: Offer guidance and assistance to clients, ensuring they understand their rights and options.
  • Manage and Coordinate Cases: Effectively manage a high volume of cases, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Liaise with Stakeholders: Build and maintain relationships with community agencies, criminal justice partners, and other stakeholders to advocate for clients' needs.
  • Participate in Projects and Committees: Contribute to public education activities, projects, and committees that promote victim support and services.
  • Prepare Reports: Develop and submit statistical reports to track client services and program effectiveness.
RequirementsTechnical Knowledge
  • Experience Working with Victims: Demonstrate skills in providing services to victims of crime and marginalized/vulnerable clients, including those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, homicide, and death-related cases.
  • Knowledge of Victim Services: Possess comprehensive knowledge of victim services, including needs assessment, crisis intervention, emotional support, and referrals.
Analytical, Judgement, and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Client Issue Resolution: Effectively deal with client issues, interact with stakeholders, and recommend service improvements.
  • Program Policy Application: Apply program policies, relevant legislation, and guidelines to assess client risks, consider alternatives, and select the best course of action.
Communication, Interpersonal, and Teamwork Skills
  • Diverse Clientele: Deal effectively and appropriately with a diverse clientele, liaising with criminal justice partners and community agencies.
  • Networking and Collaboration: Network effectively with community agencies, work with diverse communities, and be sensitive to their needs.
  • Report Writing and Training: Write reports, case file summaries, and assist in developing and conducting training programs.
Case Management, Organizational, and Planning Skills
  • Caseload Management: Demonstrate the ability to manage a large caseload independently, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
Computer Skills
  • MS Office and Database Systems: Possess demonstrated knowledge of MS Office software and working with database systems.
