Job Overview:

Role Summary:

The Youth Connect Project Coordinator will spearhead a significant initiative funded by Alberta Health Services aimed at suicide prevention. This role involves recruiting and training youth aged 15 to 25 as Wellness Ambassadors, who will provide essential support and demonstrate empathy to peers facing mental health challenges. This collaborative project is executed in partnership with five local agencies, enhancing the reach and impact of our services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning and execution of the Youth Connect Project, ensuring alignment with community mental health objectives.
  • Develop a comprehensive project framework that empowers marginalized youth to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to support their peers.
  • Act as a trusted facilitator and mentor for a group of 20 to 30 Wellness Ambassadors, fostering their development and engagement.
  • Organize and lead monthly meetings with Wellness Ambassadors, maintaining ongoing communication and support.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders, conduct research on best practices, coordinate training sessions, and assist in project evaluation.

Job Conditions:

This is a full-time role requiring 35 hours per week, with flexible scheduling from Monday to Friday, including occasional evening and weekend work.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field related to youth development.
  • In-depth understanding of mental health issues impacting youth, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, and trauma.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with youth from marginalized backgrounds.
  • Proven track record in community development, networking, and building supportive relationships.
  • Ability to design and implement structured yet adaptable program plans with clear objectives.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience in facilitating group dynamics and managing diverse youth interactions.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral services available in Edmonton.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and effectively.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification.
  • Completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
  • Recent clear Police Information Check and Child Intervention Check.
