This position entails supervising mail delivery and processing operations on a relief basis within a designated area. The role involves overseeing the activities of delivery personnel and ensuring the effective manual handling of mail during assigned shifts. The supervisor serves as the representative of the organization, regularly communicating performance expectations and operational updates to team members.
Key Responsibilities
As a Supervisor for Operations Relief, you will be responsible for the following:
- Overseeing the daily operations of a team dedicated to the safe and efficient sorting, routing, and delivery of mail, adhering to established regulations and procedures.
- Managing the processing of various mail classes within a postal facility, setting daily priorities to meet deadlines and service commitments. This includes monitoring delivery and scanning exceptions and coordinating with other operational functions to ensure smooth mail movement.
- Implementing workplace safety and health initiatives, coaching employees on safe practices to minimize accidents, conducting investigations, and addressing health and safety concerns promptly.
- Providing leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a respectful workplace environment. This includes handling human resources processes such as staffing, performance management, and attendance management.
- Estimating workloads to ensure adequate staffing levels, recommending overtime as necessary, and assigning staff to various operational areas based on mail volume fluctuations.
- Evaluating current operational methods and suggesting improvements to enhance efficiency, while effectively communicating changes to relevant support groups.
- Conducting daily assessments of employee productivity, investigating discrepancies, and implementing best practices to enhance performance.
- Maintaining administrative records related to processed volumes and employee attendance, performing necessary administrative tasks associated with the supervisory role.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders, including representatives from bargaining units, contractors, customers, and the general public.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in team management or at least 2 years of experience in a unionized environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
