Work Environment

This position is set within a university or college cafeteria, providing a fast-paced and engaging atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up dining areas by bringing clean dishes, flatware, and other items to serving locations.
  • Manage linen supplies by carrying and replacing as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness by sanitizing items such as dishwasher mats, carts, and waste disposal units.
  • Clear and clean tables, trays, and chairs efficiently.
  • Load buspans and trays for service.
  • Operate dishwashers to ensure cleanliness of dishes, glassware, and flatware.
  • Organize dishes in storage areas appropriately.
  • Replenish condiments and supplies at tables and serving areas.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes and kitchen items by hand when necessary.
  • Prepare, heat, and finish simple food items for service.
  • Serve customers at counters or buffet setups.
  • Stock refrigerators and salad bars to ensure availability of items.
  • Take customer orders accurately.
  • Utilize kitchen appliances for food preparation and cleaning tasks.
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness by sanitizing work surfaces, cupboards, and equipment.
  • Handle and store cleaning products safely.
  • Receive and store supplies in appropriate areas.
  • Manage kitchen waste effectively.
  • Maintain kitchen tools by sharpening knives as needed.
  • Keep floors clean by sweeping, mopping, and polishing.
  • Prepare vegetables and fruits by washing, peeling, and cutting.
Qualifications
  • Certificates: Food Safety Certificate, Safe Food Handling Certificate, Serving It Right Certificate, Smart Serve, WHMIS Certificate.
  • Equipment Experience: Familiarity with conventional ovens, deep fryers, electronic cash registers, food dispensers, and grills.
  • Security Checks: Criminal record check and Child Abuse Registry check required.
  • Transportation: Own transportation is necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capability to handle heavy loads (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs).
  • Physical demands include standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to work under pressure with attention to detail.
