About the Role

As a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, the Psychologist will report directly to the Health Services Manager and Clinical Director, providing essential services to adults and their families.

The Mental Health and Addictions department is seeking a qualified Psychologist to contribute to the Centre for Emotions and Health. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other professionals, offering assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and psychotherapy for patients experiencing somatic symptom disorders. Proficiency in conducting intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy is essential.

Key Responsibilities

The Psychologist will:

  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, including peer video supervision for ongoing clinical development.
  • Utilize advanced psychotherapy techniques and demonstrate expertise in ISTDP.
  • Conduct psychological assessments and testing relevant to adult mental health.
  • Facilitate both individual and group psychotherapy sessions, including brief therapeutic interventions.
  • Develop and implement group psychotherapy programs.
  • Apply knowledge of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with clients and their families to formulate joint treatment plans.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients.
  • Work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in service delivery.
  • Possess awareness of local community resources and agencies.
  • Maintain a valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Possess competencies in additional languages, with French being an asset.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP).
  • A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in outpatient mental health settings is preferred.

Work Schedule

  • Permanent, Part-Time (50%); 37.5 hours bi-weekly.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $62.74. Additionally, successful candidates may qualify for a signing bonus and relocation assistance under a defined Return of Service contract.
