Job Title: Review Board Liaison, Registered Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Review Board Liaison. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing expert clinical guidance and support to patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Person-in-Charge at BC Criminal Code Review Board hearings, preparing comprehensive reports and articulating the hospital's position to the clinical teams, patient's counsel, and the Review Board.
  • Prepare and present the hospital's case, calling and preparing witnesses, leading evidence, and cross-examining witnesses of other parties.
  • Liaise with the Review Board, Ministry of Attorney General, Corrections Canada, patient's counsel, and other relevant agencies regarding patients under the jurisdiction of the BC Review Board.
  • Complete briefing notes following each Review Board hearing and communicate Review Board decisions to the clinical team.
  • Maintain accurate and concise documentation of relevant information, adhering to FPS policy standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide educational workshops and programs on the Criminal Code of Canada, the BC Review Board, and related practice issues to staff, students, and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of post-basic specialty nursing certificate/program if applicable, and three (3) years' recent, related experience in forensic mental health, including one (1) year's experience developing, implementing, and/or delivering education services.
  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and Forensic Psychiatric Nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric disorders, medical and legal terminology, court-room procedures, therapeutic modalities, risk assessments, the BC Review Board, its procedures and practices, the Mental Health Act, the Mental Disorder provisions of the Criminal Code, the forensic services in BC, court dispositions, and Ministry of Health and BC Review Board directives pertinent to forensic patients.
