About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing in our laboratory.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
  • Data entry and media/reagent/smear preparation
  • Supply management and troubleshooting
  • Providing excellent customer service and interacting with various stakeholders
  • Working independently and as part of a team to achieve laboratory goals

You will be working in a fast-paced environment, and your ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and maintain a high level of accuracy will be essential to your success in this role.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Ability to accurately number/label specimens and file slides/requisitions
  • Basic computer skills, with experience in Meditech preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation, as travel may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent, part-time position, with 37.5 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $26.27.
