For over 50 years, Durham College has served the communities of Durham Region and Northumberland County, with campuses located in Oshawa and Whitby. The institution offers more than 12,500 full-time post-secondary and apprenticeship students access to over 145 full-time post-secondary programs, including four honours bachelor degrees and nine apprenticeship programs. With a dedicated team of over 1,860 full- and part-time staff, DC contributes an estimated annual economic impact exceeding $913 million to the Durham Region.
Position Overview:Durham College is in search of a qualified and enthusiastic professional who shares our dedication to quality education and student achievement. The Faculty of Media, Art & Design is looking for a part-time professor to instruct in Technical Artistry. This course explores the unique role of a Technical Artist within the gaming industry, emphasizing its supportive function across various artistic disciplines. Students will learn to identify and apply technical supports and practices for concurrent projects, utilizing advanced techniques in their specific area of study. This course is designed to complement concurrent courses in the third year, Fall semester.
Key Responsibilities:The responsibilities of part-time professors at Durham College include, but are not limited to:
- Fostering a positive learning environment that respects and accommodates the diverse cultural and educational backgrounds of students;
- Employing adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Effectively utilizing educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
- Developing curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
- Ensuring that course and program curricula remain current and relevant;
- Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
- Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A relevant diploma (a Master's degree is preferred). Professional designation is an asset.
- A minimum of five years of recent and relevant work experience.
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with a strong understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and current assessment methodologies.
- Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
- A demonstrated commitment to prioritizing the student experience.
- Proficiency in using current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
- A proven track record of lifelong learning.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, and community partners.
- Understanding of the Ontario college system.
