Become a vital part of our dynamic team and contribute to shaping the future of community healthcare—both locally and globally. Discover how you can play a significant role in our transformative mission.

Why You Should Consider Joining Us

At Appletree, we offer a unique opportunity for those who are genuinely passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare. Whether you are an aspiring medical student, planning to further your education in a master's or nursing program, or simply looking to make a meaningful difference, this role provides unmatched exposure to the healthcare environment. You will engage directly with physicians and patients, gaining invaluable experience that surpasses a typical entry-level position.

This role is tailored for individuals serious about advancing their careers in the medical field. Here, you will cultivate essential skills, enhance your résumé, and obtain strong references from healthcare professionals—key advantages as you apply for medical school or other advanced programs.

We seek individuals who view this opportunity as a stepping stone to a fulfilling career in healthcare. If you are motivated by a sincere passion for medicine and eager to immerse yourself in the industry, Appletree offers the growth, experience, and mentorship necessary for success. Additionally, you will have access to a comprehensive healthcare benefits plan for you and your family, along with other advantages that support your professional and personal development.

The Role

The Healthcare Support Specialist position is ideal for recent graduates, final-year students available for 3-5 full-day shifts per week, or individuals taking a gap year to gain essential work experience. While prior medical experience is not mandatory, we are looking for candidates with a strong customer service background—whether in retail, food service, or other fast-paced settings—who are enthusiastic about exploring a career in healthcare.

Compensation: Base rate of $16.55 per hour, with potential for additional earnings and career advancement.
Benefits: Comprehensive vision, dental, medical, and paramedical services, with eligibility commencing after 6 months of continuous full-time employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurate registration of patients through administrative tasks (e.g., reception, scheduling, payment collection).
  • Effective clinical preparation of patients (e.g., welcoming patients in the exam room and performing triage).
  • Appropriate application of scripts, scenarios, and clinical skills.
  • Utilization of our Electronic Medical Record system (EMR Advantage).
  • Maintain consistent inventory levels through daily stocking of exam rooms and other clinic areas.
  • Ensure cleanliness and orderliness by sanitizing exam rooms, waiting areas, and restrooms.
  • Follow proper opening and closing procedures for the clinic.
  • Manage record-keeping and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Opportunity to train in specialty programs (e.g., Travel Medicine, Allergy Testing, Foot Care, and Well-Baby) after successful completion of a 3-month probationary review.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Must reside in Ontario (this is an onsite position).
  • Must be permanently eligible to work in Canada (i.e., Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen) or possess a valid Work Permit for at least 12 months (no sponsorships available).
  • This role requires physical activity, including being on your feet throughout the day and moving around the clinic to perform various tasks.
  • 1-2 years of post-secondary education in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • An undergraduate or bachelor's degree in health science, Kinesiology, General Science, or Arts is considered an asset.
  • Six months to one year of experience in a customer service environment (e.g., retail or hospitality).
  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken, written, reading, and comprehension); proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Must be committed, reliable, and flexible to work days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Willingness to work at multiple clinic locations within the region.
  • Passionate about personal learning, training, and ongoing development.
