Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our team at Interior Health Authority. As a key member of our Workplace Health and Safety team, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and sustaining an integrated system-based approach to occupational health and safety programs and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to site leadership on interpreting applicable legislation and implementing the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Develop positive working relationships with internal and external partners to collaborate on the development of an overall systemic approach to OHS.
  • Use a health and safety management system framework to guide the organization in adopting a culture of physical and psychological health that extends beyond regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical OHS advice and guidance to managers on interpretation of regulations, application of safety procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Monitor and audit worksite safety activities to identify trends and provide recommendations to management to correct unsafe and hazardous conditions and/or processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related and/or occupational health and safety discipline.
  • Five to seven years of recent, related experience working in a healthcare environment, including change management, quality improvement experience, and experience with large-scale organizational change efforts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge related to prevention of violence in the workplace and ergonomics.
  • Working knowledge of BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and the Workers Compensation Act.
  • Ability to apply Health and Safety Management System concepts/systems approach.
