Reporting to the Manager of Critical Care and Surgery, the perioperative nurse plays a crucial role in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while adhering to quality management standards aligned with the Northern Health mission.
Northern Health Regional Operating Room Education (RORE) and Post Anesthetic Recovery Overview:
The Northern Health Regional Operating Room Education (RORE) offers a standardized, evidence-based online curriculum developed by the Association of Registered Nurses (AORN), known as Periop 101.
This program is available across British Columbia, ensuring a consistent provincial perioperative education framework, promoting continuity of care and portability of practice.
RORE integrates AORN's Periop 101 online curriculum with hands-on skills training and clinical mentorship to prepare nurses for safe and effective perioperative nursing care in both scrub and circulating roles at an entry-level.
The Post Anesthetic Recovery (PAR) area is a dynamic, technologically advanced environment. PAR nurses manage multiple responsibilities, including continuous patient observation and careful monitoring using advanced equipment. Nurses are tasked with managing patient flow while prioritizing safety.
Applicable Locations:
Various sites are available for training opportunities.
- A limited number of training positions are available.
- Northern Health provides support for placement and funding for educational expenses, including tuition and travel.
- Candidates should anticipate a commitment of several months for this educational program, which encompasses both online and in-person components.
- Additional study time outside of scheduled hours may be necessary to successfully complete the program.
- Flexibility for practical training is essential.
- Successful completion of the educational program is required before assuming duties in the department.
- Upon completion, Northern Health mandates a return of service in a relevant nursing position.
- Qualified candidates will be prioritized for specialty roles; if no qualified candidates are available, training will be offered to others.
Monday to Friday, Day shifts - 08:00 to 16:00
