We are committed to expanding our innovative offerings to serve a wide range of stakeholders, including academic researchers, patients, and the general public.

We are seeking a skilled Director of Business Development and Community Engagement to play a pivotal role in our organization. This remote position focuses on establishing and nurturing partnerships with various external communities, such as libraries, consortia, funding bodies, scientific societies, university departments, and research networks. The ideal candidate will be innovative and willing to challenge the norms of scholarly publishing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and pursue new business opportunities for JMIR Publications, including the development of new journals and services.
  2. Design and negotiate publishing agreements, leading business pitches and proposals with libraries, consortia, funding organizations, and scientific communities.
  3. Develop and implement strategies to secure partnerships with libraries and funding sources.
  4. Build and maintain meaningful, long-term relationships with institutional clients, research communities, societies, and other stakeholders.
  5. Identify and engage potential advertisers and sponsors for special initiatives.
  6. Enhance the visibility of JMIR Publications within the medical publishing sector.
  7. Collaborate with the Publisher to create tailored proposals, marketing materials, and sponsored solutions for libraries, funders, and partners.
  8. Work alongside the marketing team to manage key marketing initiatives, including audience development and relationship management.

Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated success in achieving and surpassing targets in the edtech or publishing sectors.
  2. Proficient in G Suite and experienced with CRM tools such as Hubspot or Salesforce.
  3. Willingness to engage with partners and colleagues at various events, including some international travel.
  4. Over 5 years of experience in scholarly publishing, ideally in roles related to partnership management, marketing, or sales.
  5. Understanding of advancements in digital publishing.
  6. Results-Oriented: Comfortable in a fast-paced, growth-driven environment.
  7. Communication Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
  8. Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
  9. Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis with attention to detail and financial aspects.
  10. Project Management: Capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
