Executive Sous Chef

The Executive Sous Chef plays a pivotal role in the success of Coast Hotels by delivering exceptional customer service and culinary expertise. Reporting to the Executive Chef, this dynamic leader will drive growth, development, and operational efficiency within the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef to establish a comprehensive kitchen strategy, including goal-setting, opportunity identification, and change management.
  • Implement systems, structures, and practices to drive results and achieve operational excellence.
  • Provide front-line service while leading and supervising the culinary team, ensuring consistent food preparation and service delivery standards.
  • Partner with the Executive Chef on menu engineering and product development, staying current with market trends and customer preferences.
  • Assume responsibility for the Executive Chef's tasks in their absence, ensuring seamless kitchen operations.
  • Manage food inventory and labor costs to meet or exceed financial targets.
  • Build a high-performing team through effective recruitment, communication, and development practices, fostering a motivating and engaging work environment.
  • Monitor quality of work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify potential leaders within the team and implement training and development programs.
  • Address guest concerns and exceed expectations by removing barriers to guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a culture of awareness and monitoring equipment performance.
Requirements:
  • Chef de Cuisine certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience, with 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Red Seal certification.
  • Food Safe certification.
  • Hepatitis A vaccination recommended.
  • Self-motivated team player with demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Demonstrated advanced internal/external customer service philosophy.
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience discussing performance issues with direct reports.
  • Experience forecasting and budgeting.
  • Thorough understanding of legislation and regulations applicable to the area.
  • Exemplifies Coast's core values and thrives in a culture of accountability.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
