About the Role

The Clinical Psychologist (PhD) plays a pivotal role within the Senior Health Care Program, situated in the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care sector of Nova Scotia Health Authority. This position entails the planning, execution, and assessment of psychological services, as well as the mentorship and supervision of students. The organization offers a CPA accredited pre-doctoral internship program in Clinical Psychology. The Psychologist is responsible for conducting assessments, interventions, teaching, research, and providing consultative services within a collaborative interdisciplinary framework.

The primary focus of this role is to address the psychosocial needs of veterans and residents at Camp Hill Long Term Care, while also offering support to their families. The successful candidate will engage in one-on-one assessments and interventions, contribute to the formulation of interdisciplinary care plans, and provide guidance to other healthcare professionals within the Camp Hill team and beyond. Additionally, the Psychologist will be involved in developing programs aimed at enhancing the psychosocial wellbeing of veterans and residents.

There may be a requirement to deliver services across the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care Services portfolio.

Qualifications

We invite applications from candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited Clinical Psychology program, with a robust background in clinical health psychology and experience with elderly populations.
  • A one-year accredited clinical pre-doctoral internship is mandatory.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP) is essential.
  • Experience with clinical health psychology assessment and intervention is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with dementia and other medical or psychological conditions leading to long-term care placement is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in diagnosing and implementing treatment plans.
  • Ability to work autonomously while being an effective member of a multidisciplinary team in challenging clinical situations.
  • Knowledge and skills in clinical research and program evaluation would be beneficial.
  • Experience in supervising psychology trainees is a plus.
  • Experience in developing and evaluating training programs is an asset.
  • Competency in additional languages is advantageous, with a preference for French.

Work Schedule
  • Part-time (50%) position; 37.5 hours bi-weekly.
  • Approximately a 12-month commitment.
Compensation and Benefits

$62.74 per hour

Successful candidates may qualify for a benefits package that includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
