Job Summary: Clinical Psychologist for Provincial Preschool Autism Services

Clinical Psychologist position available for Provincial Preschool Autism Services, providing diagnostic assessments for children suspected of having autism, working as part of a provincial team to support autism diagnostics and collaborating with interprofessional teams to provide evidence-based assessment services.

About the Role

The Clinical Psychologist will be responsible for completing clinical diagnostic assessments of children who are suspected of having a diagnosis of autism, working as part of a provincial team to support autism diagnostics and collaborating with interprofessional teams to provide evidence-based assessment services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete clinical diagnostic assessments of children who are suspected of having a diagnosis of autism
  • Work as part of a provincial team to support autism diagnostics and collaborate with interprofessional teams to provide evidence-based assessment services
  • Provide direct, consultative, or collaborative services with interprofessional autism intervention teams and with families to provide foundational education, caregiver coaching, care coordination, and transition to school-based intervention services
  • Develop and implement management plans with families, taking into account identified strengths and difficulties, as well as the family's priorities and knowledge of available resources
Requirements
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP)
  • Master's or PhD in Psychology, with a minimum of 3 years of pediatric work experience for Master's background, or a minimum of 1 year post-doctoral supervision, 1 year of full-time predoctoral residency in a relevant area, and 2 years of relevant pediatric work experience for PhD background
  • Knowledge of typical child development and divergent neurodevelopment, the range of behavioral manifestations of Autism and patterns of co-occurring conditions, relevant health conditions and their implications for a diagnosis of Autism, and the impact of context on development
  • Ability to create a relevant management plan with the family, taking into account identified strengths and difficulties, as well as the family's priorities and knowledge of available resources
