Health and Safety Advisor

The City of Port Coquitlam is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Advisor to join our Human Resources Department. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the City's compliance with relevant legislation and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough investigations into accidents and incidents, ensuring accurate documentation and timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on safety-related matters, ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and related legislation.
  • Develop and maintain the City's Health and Safety Programs, including hazard prevention, risk assessments, and training and education.
  • Collaborate with management to develop health and safety policies, safe work procedures, and guidelines.
  • Facilitate and support the implementation of coordinated health and safety education and training, including in-house training or third-party consultants.
  • Develop and coordinate the contractor safety management program.
  • Serve as a resource expert to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) on safety standards and regulations.
  • Assist in identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
  • Support the planning and coordination of City-wide emergency drills and exercises.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Minimum three years' recent experience in a safety practitioner's role in a complex, unionized setting.
  • Considerable knowledge of labour relations related to OH&S issues.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is desirable.
  • BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Human Resources Information Systems, WorkSafeBC Online Portal, and other computer-based programs.
