- Provide expert advice and guidance on safety-related matters, ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and related legislation.
- Develop and maintain the City's Health and Safety Programs, including hazard prevention, risk assessments, and training and education.
- Collaborate with management to develop health and safety policies, safe work procedures, and guidelines.
- Facilitate and support the implementation of coordinated health and safety education and training.
- Develop and coordinate the contractor safety management program.
- Act as a resource expert to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) on the interpretation and application of safety standards and regulations.
- Assist in identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
- Minimum of three years' recent experience in a safety practitioner's role in a complex, unionized setting.
- Considerable knowledge of labour relations related to OH&S issues.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is desirable.
- BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Intermediate skills related to Microsoft Office Suite, Human Resources Information Systems, WorkSafeBC Online Portal, and other computer-based programs.
