Position Overview:

The Aircraft Avionics Specialist is responsible for conducting service, fundamental tasks, and maintenance activities on aircraft avionics systems and components, adhering to the approved maintenance protocols. This role involves utilizing technical documentation, including manuals and schematics. Key responsibilities include the removal, disassembly, inspection, servicing, repair, modification, reassembly, installation, and conducting continuity checks, while providing support to Avionics Systems Technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate support equipment and hand/power tools safely, following Tool and FOD control protocols. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by employing safe work practices and using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Analyze and address built-in-test (BITE) results, resolving defects and unserviceability in avionics systems, which includes disassembly, replacement, and reassembly, along with supporting related systems checks. Provide assistance for EMI/EMC tasks. Execute ramp duties, including marshalling, parking, towing, fuelling/defueling, servicing, and conducting pre/post-flight inspections. Collaborate with Avionics Systems Technicians to perform necessary maintenance following flight tests. Carry out authorized airworthiness functions as Shop Certification Authority (SCA) and Product Conformance Authority (PCA). Participate in off-site Mobile Repair Parties/Field Teams and Work Parties as required. Offer on-the-job training (OJT) and technical guidance to fellow Avionics Technicians. Attend training and development sessions for qualification and authorization purposes. Comply with company policies, procedures, and directives.

Qualifications:

Must fulfill one of the following eligibility criteria: graduate from a recognized aircraft maintenance or apprenticeship program, possess a current Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) license, be qualified as an Avionics Technician with the Canadian Forces, or have completed an equivalent foreign military/civilian basic trade-training program. Hold a Transport Canada licensed AME (E) or equivalent FAA/JAA certification, and have experience with major modifications and prototype aircraft ground test plans. Possess basic to advanced knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, including communications, navigation, radar, data management, instrument, and electrical power distribution systems. Demonstrate detailed knowledge in executing instructions and utilizing the Wire Information Management System (WIMS) along with general wiring practices standards. Capable of interpreting technical documentation such as manuals, drawings, Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Work Orders (WOs), and Request for Engineering Services (RES) instructions. Exhibit a compliant and proficient level of skill, acquired through training and practical experience, for maintenance authorization, along with a basic understanding of airworthiness requirements. Must meet the criteria for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
