Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team at Propak. As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for operating computer-controlled machine tools to produce precision parts and components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study specifications, charts, and drawings to determine machining operations.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances, and prepare working sketches as needed.
  • Measure and mark metal and other materials.
  • Set up and operate tools, including computer numerically controlled machines, to perform precision machining operations.
  • Fabricate parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.

Requirements

  • Apprentice Level:
    • Be eligible for registration as a registered apprentice or be a registered apprentice.
    • Motivated and willing to learn.
  • Journeyman Level:
    • Hold a valid recognized Alberta Journeyperson Trade Certificate or a recognized trade certificate or equivalency document.
    • Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate is preferred.
  • Apprentice Level:
    • Mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn.
  • Journeyman Level:
    • 2+ years of directly related work experience.
    • This position may be required to direct, coach, and mentor apprentices.

  • The ability to estimate and measure sizes and distances accurately.
  • The ability to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort.

Work Environment

Specific Work Conditions

  • Fabrication shops are frequently noisy, dusty, busy areas with some confined spaces – attention to personal and team safety is required.
  • May be required to work outdoors in all types of weather.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be in good physical condition with the physical strength and stamina required to occasionally lift heavy materials in excess of 10 kilograms and stand for long periods.
  • Frequent bending and working at heights.
  • There is some risk of injury when working with power tools and heavy equipment.
  • Employees must adhere to dress code for safety-sensitive areas. Company-standard PPE for shops and yards includes CSA-approved steel-toed boots and full-length pants.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground that is expected in yards.
