Trans Mountain is the operator of Canada's sole pipeline system dedicated to transporting oil products to the West Coast. Our operations involve the delivery of approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products daily through a network of 1,150 kilometers of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, along with 111 kilometers in Washington state.

As a Project Engineer at Trans Mountain, you will collaborate with a dynamic and innovative team of professionals.

Reporting to the Team Lead of Project Engineering, your role will involve overseeing sustaining capital projects aimed at maintaining the integrity of our pipeline and associated facilities. As part of the Capital Projects engineering team, you will engage in the identification, planning, and execution of capital projects across the Trans Mountain pipeline system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all engineering design activities ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, standards, and specifications.
  • Review scoping documents to guarantee that all design requirements and project scopes are accurately reflected in execution plans.
  • Identify process and mechanical quality assurance needs and contribute to a quality assurance team.
  • Collaborate with engineering contractors to provide guidance on design development and technical matters.
  • Evaluate and approve proposed engineering designs to ensure all requirements are adequately addressed.
  • Ensure compliance with mechanical document management and lifecycle information standards.
  • Prepare project specifications, cost estimates, bid documents, analysis summaries, budget forecasts, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, and both internal and external stakeholders to develop sustaining capital projects.
  • Provide project management services, including overseeing third-party engineering firms, project scoping, preparing AFE's, reviewing drawings, permitting, job hazard analysis, cost and schedule tracking, construction liaison, commissioning, and start-up support.
  • Ensure that project documentation and lifecycle information requirements are met.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably in Mechanical or Structural Engineering) is required.
  • P. Eng Designation with the Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA) or Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) is required.
  • 4 to 8 years of engineering experience in a related field is essential.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in pipeline engineering.
  • Project management experience, particularly managing projects up to $10M, is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Experience in an operational environment is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others, along with a desire to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems effectively.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate challenging conversations.

Additional Information

  • Travel to work sites may be required (5-10%).
  • A valid class 5 driver's license is necessary.
  • Availability to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on weekends may be needed.
