Lecturer in Engineering Communication Practices

Course Overview: This course, Praxis I, immerses students in the foundational concepts of engineering design and effective communication. Through a blend of engaging lectures, structured Design Studio sessions, and collaborative projects, participants will delve into essential aspects of teamwork, design, and communication.

Teaching Responsibilities: Instructors are expected to:

  • Attend two lectures weekly throughout the term.
  • Participate in two weekly planning meetings to strategize upcoming studio activities and review the previous studio.
  • Engage in a comprehensive orientation session for all instructors at the term's start.
  • Conduct two 2-hour studio sessions weekly, including preparation and collaborative planning.
  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on various assignments, attending benchmarking meetings for grading purposes.
  • Supervise one test during the designated midterm period.
  • Mentor students individually and in teams, facilitating consultations to enhance their writing and presentation skills.
  • Possibly evaluate final presentations during designated studio times.
  • Adapt to online teaching responsibilities if necessary.

Qualifications:

Minimum: A Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong communication skills and a commitment to teaching.

Preferred: A PhD in a related discipline, along with certification in second-language instruction and familiarity with engineering communication practices.
