Course Overview: The Praxis II course builds upon the foundations laid in Praxis I, encouraging students to apply, enhance, and refine their engineering design and communication capabilities. Throughout the course, students engage in design projects that they identify and define, focusing on relevant issues affecting communities in the Greater Toronto Area.

Course Structure: In the initial phase of the course, students collaborate in small teams to identify, frame, and document pertinent engineering challenges. The latter part of the course involves designing, prototyping, and presenting engineering solutions to a selection of these challenges. This hands-on approach is complemented by an exploration of the theories, tools, and practices associated with engineering design and communication.

Showcase Event: The course culminates in an open showcase where students present their design solutions to representatives from various governmental and non-governmental organizations, project stakeholders, and the general public.

Position Details:

  • Up to one position available.
  • Estimated course enrolment of 250 students across 10 studio sections.
  • Lectures scheduled on multiple days with specific attendance requirements.
  • Teaching responsibilities include co-instructing studios and providing detailed feedback on assignments.

Qualifications:

Minimum: A Master's degree in a relevant discipline, with strong communication skills and a commitment to teaching.

Preferred: A PhD in a related field, TESL certification, and familiarity with engineering communication practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in lectures and planning meetings.
  • Co-instruct studios and prepare for teaching sessions.
  • Evaluate assignments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Supervise and mentor students, offering support for their academic development.
  • Develop supplementary curriculum materials for student assistance.
