Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual to fulfill the role of a Sessional Lecturer within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. This position involves teaching the course MIE301H1, which focuses on the Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines.

Course Details:

Course Number: MIE301H1
Course Focus: This course encompasses the classification of mechanisms, analysis of velocity, acceleration, and force, utilizing both graphical and computational methods. Topics include gears, geartrains, cams, flywheels, and the dynamics of mechanisms.

Teaching Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and delivering engaging lectures and course materials.
  • Supervising Teaching Assistants and coordinating their efforts.
  • Setting and grading assessments, including tests and final examinations.
  • Evaluating student performance and assigning final grades.
  • Maintaining communication with students to support their learning.

Course Enrollment: Approximately 230 students are expected to enroll in this course.

Class Schedule:

Classes will be held on:

  • Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Fridays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a strong background in teaching, with a proven record of delivering lectures or serving as a teaching assistant. Candidates must demonstrate substantial expertise in the subject matter and possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Limited License (LEL) is highly preferred, while an Engineering Intern (EIT) designation is also acceptable.

Interested candidates are required to submit a Unit 3 Sessional Instructor Application Form, along with a resume and teaching dossier. All applications must be submitted to the MIE Undergraduate Office by the specified deadline. Applicants should include contact information for their supervisor and two University of Toronto staff members who can attest to their teaching abilities.

Additional Information:

This position is governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. The availability of the position is contingent upon course enrollment, budgetary considerations, and final assignment determinations.
