Elevate your nursing career as a critical care Registered Nurse by becoming a vital member of our exceptional team in the Heart Investigation Unit (HIU). The HIU at Hamilton Health Sciences stands as Ontario's premier facility, featuring four cutting-edge cardiac catheterization labs and a 32-bed recovery and reception area. Our unit has successfully conducted over 10,500 procedures in the past year, encompassing cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, valvuloplasties, and percutaneous aortic valve implantations.
Our dedicated team, including physicians and management, is committed to enhancing the education and skill set of our nursing staff. We provide a comprehensive orientation program designed to ensure your success. Numerous continuing education opportunities are available at both the unit and corporate levels to support your professional development and career aspirations.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an integral member of our mission-driven healthcare team. RNs are trained to operate within both the cardiac catheterization labs and the recovery and reception area, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to and enhance patient care throughout their entire journey within the HIU. Staff members are encouraged to pursue additional specialized training within the catheterization labs. If you thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, the HIU may be the ideal setting for you.
Work ScheduleShifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and standby/call duties.
Required Qualifications 1. Valid Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
2. Current BCLS and ACLS certifications.
3. A minimum of two years of recent experience in acute cardiac care and critical care nursing.
4. At least two years of recent experience with interventional cardiology procedures.
5. Recent experience in ECG interpretation/treatment, hemodynamic monitoring, ventilation, IV access, venipuncture, defibrillation, and pacemaker management.
6. Demonstrated expertise in assessing and managing an acute cardiac population and critically ill adults.
7. Proven ability to utilize problem-solving and critical thinking techniques effectively in a critical care context.
8. Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
9. Capacity to perform well in high-stress situations.
10. Ability to wear lead for extended periods.
As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
