About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Human Resources Consultant to join our team at the City of St. Catharines. As a key member of our HR department, you will play a crucial role in supporting and advising our staff to ensure alignment with corporate policies, legal requirements, and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Labour Relations and Organizational Development:
    • Engage in all aspects of labour relations, including negotiations and grievance handling.
    • Stay informed on legislation, arbitration decisions, and industry trends.
    • Oversee employee wellness and non-occupational disabilities management.
    • Investigate complaints and provide resolution recommendations.
    • Participate in Job Evaluation Committees for job classification.
  • HR Policy Implementation and Compliance:
    • Review, update, and develop corporate policies to ensure effectiveness.
    • Support managers in interpreting and implementing policies and collective agreements.
    • Maintain compliance with legislation and regulations.
  • Employee Development and Relations:
    • Provide coaching, counseling, and resources for career development and performance management.
    • Lead employee counseling meetings and oversee Attendance Support and Management Program.
  • Recruitment and Talent Acquisition:
    • Coordinate all recruitment activities from needs analysis to pre-employment assessments.
    • Develop partnerships with educational institutions for co-op recruitment.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Conduct new employee orientation and assist in policy development.
    • Coordinate HR functions and compile HR metrics for analysis.
    • Provide support to HR team and perform assigned duties.
Qualifications
  • University degree in HR Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) or Certified HR Professional (CHRP).
  • Five years of HR experience in various areas.
  • Proficiency in interpreting employment legislation and regulations.
  • Ontario Class G driver's license with a clean record.
