Job Summary

The University of Regina is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist in the University Archives and Library User Services. As a Student Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the library's operations and contributing to the preservation of the university's archival collections.

Responsibilities

Library User Services:

  • Shifting and re-shelving of library materials
  • Charging and discharging library materials
  • Initiating searches, recalls, and holds
  • Updating and validating borrower information
  • Creating patron records for new patrons
  • Processing library fine payments
  • Processing library room bookings
  • General reception duties, including answering phone calls and directing patrons

University Archives:

  • Digitization of selected archival collections, including textual, photographs, and slides
  • Archival collection preparation work for processing, including re-housing, scanning/copying, re-boxing, and creating basic inventory lists
  • Moving of boxes and archival material in and between storage spaces

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must be registered as a student in the current semester at the University of Regina. You should possess excellent oral and written English language abilities, strong attention to detail, and the ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the library's clients. Experience working with MS365 Suite of products, such as Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new software are also essential. Previous experience working in a library or archives environment is an asset, as is knowledge of library classification systems and standard digitization practices.
