Position Overview: As an Industrial Technician, you will collaborate with a team of industrial technicians, compliance inspectors, and Water Educators. Your responsibilities will include supporting field sampling tasks and project work as assigned by the Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect wastewater samples from various locations.
  • Prepare samples for submission to the Water Quality and Regulatory Assurance (WQRA) laboratory.
  • Utilize knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance on equipment, including autosamplers and laboratory instruments.
  • Provide information to clients regarding the surcharge program.
  • Maintain accurate data records and perform data entry and result compilation.
  • Engage in various projects related to wastewater and compliance monitoring as directed.
  • Participate in team and project meetings.

Qualifications:

  • A completed 2-year diploma in Chemical or Environmental Technology or a related degree in Environmental Science or Chemistry.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental and wastewater sampling, including laboratory and computer work related to wastewater characterization and field instrumentation, with knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental regulations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Registration with The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) as a Certified Engineering Technologist or Registered Engineering Technologist (RET) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of wastewater and industrial processes is advantageous.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, high organizational skills, and computer literacy are essential.

Working Conditions: This role requires working in physically demanding environments, including walking, climbing, and carrying moderately heavy equipment. Fieldwork will occur in various weather conditions, with potential exposure to dust, noise, odors, and hazardous materials.
