Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician is a key member of the Environmental team at Bureau Veritas Group, responsible for producing high-quality analytical data in a fast-paced laboratory environment. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be accountable for performing sample preparation, extractions, and basic testing procedures, while ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and quality specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review laboratory information management system (LIMS) summary reports to plan and organize daily work
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when conducting laboratory work, including sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses
  • Perform basic testing procedures and identify non-routine samples, seeking guidance as needed
  • Meet quality and turnaround time (TAT) specifications required by clients and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
  • Identify and communicate procedural non-conformances to supervisors
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabelling, sample mix-up, and cross-contamination
  • Provide general laboratory support and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, quality system, and health and safety program
  • Participate in department and health and safety meetings, as well as internal and external audits

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary school education or equivalent experience
  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions
  • Detail-oriented with accurate record-keeping skills
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking, and priority-setting skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Adapts to a changing environment and works both independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

  • May involve repetition of the same process
  • Requires patience, tenacity, and persistence
  • Flexible working hours, overtime, and shift work
  • May involve long periods of standing and some lifting and carrying (up to 10kg)
